We would be very grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible if you do not wish to take up your place next term.

We would like to say a big thank you to our Level 1 coaches Jess and Jordan and those that have helped with the running of our sessions this term including several parents who have been a tremendous help. Also a big thank you to all the players who have made excellent progress and are such a joy to coach. Thank you.

We’ve had an amazing start to the season with several of our members who have competed on the Badminton England circuit achieving some tremendous results and several Gold Medals! Our Launceston satellite club is going from strength to strength and offers coaching on a Tuesday evening at Launceston College. If anybody is interested in attending this session then please let us know. In November we were delighted to have our Premier Club status awarded again for another 12 months. This will be our third year achieving this accreditation award. Cornwall Youth Badminton will be having their trials usually around May time with Devon County Junior Badminton having theirs on 15th & 16th July. If you would like more information regarding these trials and eligibility, then please let us know.

It only remains for us to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Kind regards

Liskeard Start of Season Match Report for Press

Liskeard badminton club have entered division 2 of the P&D Churches medley badminton league for the 2015 / 2016 with the emphasises on playing junior players to provide valuable league experience and the opportunity to play regular badminton against adults. The mainstay of the team is William Freer (England ranked no.13), Cara Collins (ranked no.5) and Charlotte Freer (ranked no.3), aged 13, 12 and 11 respectively, who all played in the first two matches against the experienced Life Centre A team and Derriford. Ellie Reed, age 15, who is currently injured, may also be available for future games. The children are all county champions in their respective age groups and regularly play in the Badminton England National ‘Gold’ circuit. The team is supplemented by senior players.

The first match against Life Centre A team proved a real eye opener for the juniors at senior level with some excellent performances, however, the match finished 5-4 in favour of Life Centre, despite several ‘3 enders’.

The juniors really found their league feet in the second match against Derriford, who were playing division 1 badminton last season. The match finished 8-1 in favour of Liskeard with the junior players winning all their games. Notable matches were the mixed match which include William and Cara beating Lee Alderdice and Gill Jones 21-11, 21-15 with both players demonstrating a range of shots together with power and precision play. Another notable match was the ladies doubles with Cara and Charlotte beating Pam Craig and Gill Jones 21-9, 21-7. Cara’s shear athleticism and power and charlotte’s touch providing the difference.

Friendly Match against Pensilva
Sep 25, 2015, 2:01 pm

We enjoyed a tremendous ‘friendly’ combi match against Pensilva on Monday 21 September 2015.

All the games were played on genuinely friendly terms, although both sides were out to win! The teams were well matched with two games going to three ends. The final score line doesn’t really reflect how even the games were and, given that the Pensilva team do not play league matches, nor, normally with feathers, their competitive spirit certainly gave us a run for our money!

Thanks to Barry for organising it and Keith for completing the match sheet.
